How much sleep do Williston adults get?
Many get less than 7 hours. CDC PLACES estimates that 43.5% of adults in the City of Williston usually slept under 7 hours in a 24-hour period in 2022, above the 39.8% for Levy County and the 37% the CDC reported for U.S. adults that year. For 2023, PLACES estimates frequent mental distress at 19.8% of Williston adults, meaning their mental health was not good on 14 or more of the past 30 days, compared with 18.5% countywide. Neither figure is an ADHD rate.
Can poor sleep look like an attention problem?
It can, which is why sleep and stress come up at the evaluation. NHLBI says sleep deficiency can interfere with work, school and driving and can leave you struggling to learn, focus and react, some of the same problems an ADHD evaluation looks at. According to NIMH, up to 70% of adults with ADHD have sleep problems, and ADHD often comes with other mental disorders. So expect questions about your sleep, mood and health history; the aim is to understand what is going on before anyone settles on an explanation.
Where do Williston residents work?
Often outside the county. The Levy County school district describes Williston as a bedroom community for Gainesville, about 20 miles northeast, and Ocala, about the same distance southeast. Census Bureau estimates for 2020 to 2024 fit that picture: about half of Williston workers, 50.3%, worked outside Levy County, 75.7% drove to work alone, and the average one-way trip took 22.9 minutes, while 12.3% worked from home. Closer in, the county's visitors bureau points to manufacturers such as the world headquarters of Monterey Boats, and to an industrial park at the city's airport, the former Montbrook Army Airfield.
How can I fit the in-person evaluation around a workday?
Plan on roughly two hours away from work. The evaluation lasts 30 minutes, the drive is roughly 36 minutes each way without traffic, and parking and check-in take a few more. Because the clinic is open only on weekdays, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the evaluation will land inside most people's workweek. If you already work in Ocala, a slot early or late in your day can save a second trip; from a job in Gainesville, a half day off may be simpler. NHLBI warns that sleepiness while driving is responsible for serious crash injuries and deaths, so if you are running on little sleep, consider asking someone to drive you.
What will the provider ask about?
Five main things: your symptoms, how long you have had them going back to childhood, how they affect you at work and at home, your health history and current medications, and records from any earlier evaluation or care. NIMH explains that adults must have had symptoms starting before age 12, so a diagnosis leans heavily on past reports of behavior, and a provider may ask to talk with people who know you well or look at school records. The visit is with Sarah Weir, APRN, and no diagnosis or medication is promised in advance.
What might treatment involve?
A diagnosis, if there is one, can lead to a plan built from medication chosen with your provider, non-medication strategies, or both. NIMH notes that effective treatment often combines several elements, that people sometimes try more than one approach before finding what works for them, and that some adults add more physical exercise to their routine.
Can parents plan the visit around Williston's school bells?
Yes, and the bell times help. According to the school district, Joyce Bullock Elementary (pre-K to 2nd grade) runs 7:35 a.m. to 2:10 p.m., Williston Elementary (3rd to 5th) runs 7:25 a.m. to 1:55 p.m., and Williston Middle-High runs 8:50 a.m. to 3:35 p.m. A late-morning appointment in Ocala leaves time for drop-off, the drive down and the drive back before the elementary pickups. Check the district calendar for early-dismissal days, when the bell rings sooner.
Will every follow-up mean another drive to Ocala?
No. Once you are an established patient, follow-ups can be by telehealth from home in Williston, or in person if you prefer, as long as you are physically in Florida at the time. Keep your medication list close, along with any questions you have jotted down since the last visit.
What does Florida law add for controlled medications?
A database check. Section 893.055 of the Florida Statutes requires a prescriber to consult E-FORCSE, the state's prescription drug monitoring program, to review a patient's controlled substance dispensing history before prescribing a controlled substance for anyone 16 or older, with limited exceptions. The Florida Department of Health describes E-FORCSE as a system that collects dispensing information for controlled substances in schedules II through V. It binds every prescriber and predicts nothing about your own visit.

Adult ADHD questions from Williston
Is there any way to skip the drive for the first visit?
No. The first ADHD visit always happens in person in Ocala, as a 30-minute weekday evaluation at 200 SW 8th St., Suite A. The drive is needed only to start care: after that, follow-ups can be by telehealth from Williston while you are in Florida, or in person if you prefer.
Will I go home from the first visit with ADHD medication?
Not always. No diagnosis or medication is promised in advance, and same-day medication is never promised. If medication becomes part of your plan, you and your provider choose it together, and you fill it at your own pharmacy, separate from the visit fee. Plans can also include strategies that don't involve medication.
Is there a student price if I'm in college?
Yes, for college students who meet two conditions together: a card on file when they book online, and a valid college ID, checked at the visit. Meeting both brings the first visit to $130, 50% off instead of 35%, for that first visit only; follow-ups stay $136, the same for everyone. Details are on the college ADHD treatment page.
Can I still be evaluated if my old school records are gone?
Yes, so come anyway and bring what you have. NIMH notes that a provider may want to talk with people who know you well, such as a partner, family members or friends, to learn how you behaved as a child and in different settings. A parent's memories or an old report card can help fill the gaps.
