For Silver Springs patients

From $199/month

  • Lab testing comes first.
  • Your plan, and its cost, follow your labs.
  • In person in Ocala or by telehealth.

Your provider: Sarah Weir, APRN.

Padgett's TRT plan starts at $199 a month. Read that as the low end, not a quote: lab testing comes first, and your monthly cost follows the plan your results point to. Testosterone replacement therapy in Ocala explains the medically supervised program. Testosterone, a prescription medication classed as a Schedule III controlled substance, is given by injection in Padgett's program.

What happens after you send a TRT request from Silver Springs?

You don't book TRT on a calendar; the team calls you back. Send a TRT visit request or call (352) 369-0104, and staff follow up to schedule a visit at the clinic or by telehealth. Blood work comes before treatment. Sarah Weir, APRN, reviews the results with you, along with your symptoms and history. If TRT fits, she sets the plan and dose from your labs and adjusts both with follow-up labs; if not, nothing is prescribed.

Can a fasting morning blood test fit around your commute?

Usually, with planning. The Endocrine Society's 2018 guideline calls for a morning test after an overnight fast, repeated on another morning to confirm a low result, and no testing during or while recovering from an acute illness. Census estimates for 2020 to 2024 put the average one-way commute at about 31 minutes for men who commute from the 34488 ZIP code, whose Silver Springs mailing addresses stretch east across the Ocklawaha River. On the callback, ask how your draw will be arranged.

What is testosterone FDA-approved to treat?

Low or missing testosterone tied to an associated medical condition, such as testicles that fail because of a genetic problem or chemotherapy, or trouble in the hypothalamus or pituitary, the brain structures that control production. The FDA has approved no testosterone product for men with low levels who lack such a condition. Age alone doesn't qualify anyone: the Endocrine Society recommends diagnosing low testosterone only in men with symptoms and signs of deficiency and unequivocally and consistently low levels.

Does a depression diagnosis mean your testosterone is low?

No. CDC PLACES estimates that in 2023, 20.4% of Silver Springs adults had ever been told by a health professional that they had a depressive disorder, close to Marion County's 19.0%. That counts women and men, includes diagnoses at any point in life, and is not a testosterone figure. The Endocrine Society calls feeling sad or blue a nonspecific symptom and says testosterone therapy does not improve depressive symptoms in men with clinical depression. Struggling right now? The 988 Lifeline takes calls and texts around the clock.

Who is told to wait on testosterone, or skip it?

Men hoping to father a child, first. The Endocrine Society recommends against starting testosterone when fertility is planned in the near term and lists reduced sperm production as an adverse effect. It also recommends against starting with breast or prostate cancer, a prostate nodule or hardening that can be felt on exam, or a PSA above 4 ng/mL (above 3 in men at higher risk, such as African American men and men with a father, brother or son diagnosed with prostate cancer) without further urological evaluation. The same goes for an elevated hematocrit, untreated severe obstructive sleep apnea, severe lower urinary tract symptoms, uncontrolled heart failure, a heart attack or stroke within the last 6 months, or thrombophilia, a tendency to form clots.

Why do men on TRT keep having blood drawn?

To catch changes you can't feel. The Endocrine Society ties testosterone to hemoglobin increases that grow with the dose. Its standardized monitoring plan measures testosterone and hematocrit and evaluates prostate cancer risk in the first year of treatment, and if hematocrit rises above 54%, the guideline says to stop therapy until it drops to a safe level. In 2025 the FDA said required blood pressure studies confirmed an increase with all testosterone products. Your provider sets the schedule for follow-up labs and blood pressure checks.

What did a 5,246-man heart trial show?

No rise in major heart events, with a few other risks. TRAVERSE (New England Journal of Medicine, 2023) randomly assigned men aged 45 to 80 who had cardiovascular disease or a high risk of it, symptoms and two fasting testosterone levels under 300 ng/dL to a daily testosterone gel or a placebo gel. Over a mean 33 months of follow-up, 182 men on testosterone and 190 on placebo had a cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack or nonfatal stroke. Atrial fibrillation, acute kidney injury and pulmonary embolism were more common with testosterone; the FDA found no new cardiovascular safety signal.

Does your age or a physical job change the TRT decision?

It changes the questions, not the steps. Census estimates for 2020 to 2024 put about 6 in 10 employed men in the 34488 ZIP code in construction, repair, farm, production, transportation or material-moving jobs, and roughly 3 in 10 male residents at 65 or older. About 13 in 100 civilian adults there are veterans; east of downtown Ocala, the Ocala-Marion County Veterans Memorial Park honors veterans with more than 5,000 bricks. For men 65 and up, the Endocrine Society suggests against routine testosterone for low levels alone; with symptoms and consistently low morning levels, it suggests deciding individually after discussing risks and benefits.

Where do Silver Springs men stay active close to home?

Coehadjoe Park, on NE 35th Street inside the Census Bureau's Silver Springs boundary, has tennis, pickleball, basketball, racquetball and volleyball courts plus walking trails, open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Out east on NE 14th Street Road, the John Van Fleet Sports Complex has four baseball fields run in partnership with the East Marion Athletic Association. The Marshall Swamp Trailhead on SE Highway 314 leads to the Florida National Scenic Trail, which runs nearly 3 miles through Marshall Swamp, a floodplain of the Ocklawaha and Silver rivers. Has your activity level changed? Say so at the evaluation; no result is promised.

TRT questions from Silver Springs

Can my TRT visits be by telehealth from Silver Springs?

Yes, as long as you are physically in Florida during the visit; in-person visits are about 12 minutes away without traffic. Labs come first either way. On the callback, ask how blood work and follow-up checks will work for you, and see how telehealth works in Florida.

I take an antidepressant. Can I still be checked for low testosterone?

Yes. Depression treatment doesn't by itself rule out an evaluation, and your provider decides what fits. MedlinePlus asks you to report any history of depression before testosterone injections and lists mood changes, including depression, among serious side effects to call about right away. Don't stop any medicine on your own.

We're not done having kids. Is TRT still an option?

Hold off while you're trying for a child, and say so before anything starts. The Endocrine Society recommends against starting testosterone in men planning to father a child in the near term, and MedlinePlus warns that testosterone injections may lower sperm count. Your provider can talk through what that means for your plans.

Will TRT take care of erection problems?

Nobody can promise that, and TRT at Padgett isn't an erectile dysfunction treatment. The Endocrine Society lists erectile dysfunction among symptoms that suggest low testosterone, so mention it, but erections deserve their own evaluation. Your provider can look into that separately; see erectile dysfunction treatment.
