For Summerfield patients

From $199/month

  • Lab testing comes first.
  • Your plan, and its cost, follow your labs.
  • In person in Ocala or by telehealth.

Your provider: Sarah Weir, APRN.

Padgett's medically supervised TRT plans start at $199 a month; your own figure follows the plan your lab results support, so the labs, and the provider's review of them, come first. Testosterone replacement therapy in Ocala has the program details. For questions before you book, there is a free 15-minute phone call with the medical staff; it is not a visit with the provider and nothing is prescribed on it.

Does your age or line of work change how TRT starts?

The first step stays the same. The Endocrine Society's 2018 guideline calls for diagnosing low testosterone, or hypogonadism, only in men with symptoms and signs plus unequivocally and consistently low levels, and it advises against screening men in general. Ages and jobs vary widely in Summerfield: Census estimates for 2020 to 2024 put about 5,900 of the 34491 ZIP code's roughly 13,100 men 18 and older at 65 or above, and about 1,700 of its roughly 6,300 employed men in natural resources, construction and maintenance jobs.

How do you get a fasting morning test when work starts before dawn?

You plan around it. The guideline calls for total testosterone measured in the morning, before you eat, and a second morning test to confirm a low result. By the same Census estimates, about 9% of men in the 34491 ZIP code who commute leave home between midnight and 5 a.m., so a lab morning can mean a late start or a day off. When you book, ask the staff how your lab work will be scheduled.

Why isn't feeling worn down enough to start TRT?

Because those feelings are not unique to low testosterone. The guideline files decreased energy, poor concentration and memory, sleep disturbance, feeling sad or blue and depressed mood under nonspecific symptoms and signs. Depression is common, too: CDC PLACES estimates that in 2023, 19.0% of Marion County adults, men and women alike, had been told by a doctor, nurse or other health professional that they had a depressive disorder, above the 18.3% average of Florida's 67 county estimates. That is not a testosterone figure. If mood is the bigger problem, say so; in a crisis, call or text 988.

Which medicines and health conditions should you mention?

All of them, especially a few the guideline singles out. It names opioids and glucocorticoid steroids among medicines that affect how the body makes or breaks down testosterone, and it suggests testing men who take them. It also explains that obesity and type 2 diabetes can lower sex hormone-binding globulin, a protein that carries testosterone in the blood, and with it total testosterone, so it recommends a free testosterone level for men with conditions like these. For the weight itself, see personalized compounded semaglutide in Summerfield.

What does the FDA approve testosterone for, and does age count?

Only for men who lack testosterone or have low levels along with an associated medical condition, such as testicles that fail to make it because of a genetic problem or chemotherapy, or a pituitary or hypothalamus problem; no FDA-approved product is approved for low levels without one. Age alone is not a reason to start. The Endocrine Society suggests against routinely prescribing testosterone to every man 65 or older with a low level, and suggests treating case by case when symptoms and consistently low morning tests line up, after discussing benefits and risks.

Who sets the dose, and how is testosterone given here?

Your provider does, from your labs. Sarah Weir, APRN, decides whether TRT fits, sets the plan and the dose from your results, and adjusts both over time using follow-up labs. Padgett gives testosterone by injection. It is a prescription medication, classed as a Schedule III controlled substance.

Why does TRT mean ongoing bloodwork and blood pressure readings?

Testosterone can raise your red blood cell count and your blood pressure. The Endocrine Society reports a dose-dependent rise in hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in red cells, and its monitoring plan covers hematocrit, testosterone levels, symptoms, side effects and prostate cancer risk. In 2025 the FDA said blood pressure studies confirmed an increase with all testosterone products and required blood pressure information in their labels. In the TRAVERSE trial of 5,246 men aged 45 to 80 with low testosterone and heart disease or high heart risk, major heart events were about as common with testosterone gel as with placebo, 7.0% against 7.3%, but atrial fibrillation, acute kidney injury and pulmonary embolism were more frequent with testosterone.

Does testosterone therapy affect fertility?

Yes. The Endocrine Society says testosterone therapy suppresses sperm production and recommends against starting it in men planning fertility in the near term, so it is not for a man trying to father a child; bring up family plans first. The guideline also advises against starting it in men with conditions including breast or prostate cancer, an already high hematocrit, untreated severe sleep apnea, uncontrolled heart failure, a heart attack or stroke in the past six months and a tendency to form blood clots.

Where do Summerfield men play ball, swim and shoot hoops nearby?

A short drive north or east. Belleview Sportsplex, at 6501 SE 107th St., is home to softball, baseball, football and soccer leagues, with seven lit softball and baseball fields on 80 acres. Weirsdale Park has a basketball court for pickup games and a memorial to the Lake Weir area's service men and women. Hampton Beach, a Lake Weir swim beach in Ocklawaha, was the Hampton family's 1981 gift to the county and charges an entry fee. If you have slowed down out there, mention it, though no result from TRT is promised.

How does the trip to Ocala compare with the neighbors'?

From the middle of Summerfield, the clinic at 200 SW 8th St. is about 15 miles and roughly 23 minutes without traffic, open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. TRT questions from Summerfield

Could I meet the provider by telehealth instead of driving up?

Yes. TRT visits can happen by telehealth anywhere in Florida, as long as you are physically in Florida during the visit, so a Summerfield living room works fine. Telehealth across Florida explains how those visits run, and in-person visits in Ocala remain an option.

My last checkup showed normal testosterone. Could I still need TRT?

Probably not on that result alone. The guideline reserves a low testosterone diagnosis for men with symptoms plus unequivocally and consistently low levels, though it recommends a free testosterone level when total testosterone sits near the low end of normal. Your provider decides what any result means, and lasting symptoms are still worth raising at a visit.

Should erectile trouble prompt a testosterone test?

It can be a reason to check. The Endocrine Society lists low libido and erectile dysfunction among the conditions where it suggests measuring testosterone. TRT is not offered here as an erectile dysfunction treatment, though, and no result is promised; the provider can evaluate the problem on its own, and erectile dysfunction treatment explains that option.
