For Weirsdale patients
From $199/month
- Lab testing comes first.
- Your plan, and its cost, follow your labs.
- In person in Ocala or by telehealth.
Your provider: Sarah Weir, APRN.
Plans start at $199 a month; the labs decide the rest, since the plan they point to sets your actual monthly cost. Testosterone replacement therapy in Ocala covers the medically supervised, lab-guided program in full. Testosterone is a prescription medication and a Schedule III controlled substance; at Padgett, it is given by injection.
Does a yearly physical already check your testosterone?
Not necessarily. The Endocrine Society's 2018 guideline recommends against routinely screening men in the general population for low testosterone, and it reserves the diagnosis for men with symptoms and signs plus unequivocally and consistently low blood levels. The yearly visit itself is routine for most adults in the county. In CDC's PLACES estimates for 2023, 81.1% of Marion County adults, women as well as men, had been to a doctor for a routine checkup, such as a general physical, within the past year. That number says nothing about testosterone. So if something has changed, bring it up yourself.
What if you work outside Marion County?
Then plan your lab mornings early. Census estimates for 2020 to 2024 put about two-thirds of working men in Weirsdale's 32195 ZIP code at jobs outside the county they live in, roughly a third of employed men in construction and barely 1 in 100 working from home, all with wide margins. Under the guideline, the first test is total testosterone measured on a fasting morning, and a low result is confirmed by measuring it again on another fasting morning. Add drop-off at Stanton-Weirsdale Elementary on SE 134th Terrace, and mornings like those fill up. When the team calls back, share your hours and ask how the draws are arranged and how to prepare for them.
If your levels come back low, what comes next?
The guideline's next step is finding out why. Once a deficiency is confirmed, the Endocrine Society recommends further evaluation for the cause, including LH and FSH, hormone levels that help separate a testicular cause from a pituitary or hypothalamic one. Sarah Weir, APRN, reads your results with your symptoms, history and medicines. The cause matters for FDA approval, too: testosterone is approved only for men who lack it or have low levels in conjunction with an associated medical condition, for example when chemotherapy or a genetic problem keeps the testicles from making it. If TRT fits, she sets the plan and dose from your labs, then adjusts both over time.
When is testosterone the wrong choice?
One clear case is wanting to father a child soon. According to MedlinePlus, testosterone injection may reduce sperm counts, especially at high doses, and the Endocrine Society's guideline recommends against starting it in men planning fertility in the near term. The guideline's other reasons not to start are breast or prostate cancer; a prostate nodule or hardened area that can be felt on exam, a PSA above 4 ng/mL, or a PSA above 3 ng/mL in men at higher risk of prostate cancer, without further urological evaluation; an elevated hematocrit; untreated severe obstructive sleep apnea; severe urinary symptoms; uncontrolled heart failure; a heart attack or stroke in the past 6 months; and thrombophilia, a tendency to form clots.
What are the follow-up checks looking for?
A rise in blood pressure, for one, plus changes in your blood. In 2025 the FDA said the blood pressure studies it required confirmed an increase with all testosterone products, and MedlinePlus says blood pressure may be checked before treatment and regularly during it. MedlinePlus also lists symptoms that need an immediate call, such as chest pain, shortness of breath or slow or difficult speech. The Endocrine Society's monitoring plan also measures testosterone and hematocrit, a gauge of how much of your blood is red cells, and evaluates prostate cancer risk during the first year. Your provider sets the timing.
How did testosterone do in a large heart-safety trial?
Roughly even with placebo for major heart events, but three other problems were more frequent. TRAVERSE, reported in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2023, followed 5,246 men aged 45 to 80 who had symptoms, two fasting testosterone levels below 300 ng/dL, and cardiovascular disease or a high risk of it. A cardiovascular death, nonfatal heart attack or nonfatal stroke struck 7.0% of the men on testosterone and 7.3% of those on placebo, and after reviewing the results, the FDA saw no new heart-safety signal. The three were atrial fibrillation, acute kidney injury and pulmonary embolism (a lung clot), each more common with testosterone.
Where do Weirsdale men paddle, fish or catch a show?
Some of it is right in town. Kiwanis Beach at Albright Park, a county park on Lake Weir, has a hand launch and a swim beach that stays free to the public unless a group has reserved it. Emeralda Marsh Conservation Area, more than 6,500 acres of St. Johns River Water Management District land in Lake County east of Weirsdale, allows fishing, hiking and bicycling, with parking off County Road 452. On SE 138th Terrace, the Orange Blossom Opry is a historic 550-seat live music venue. Sitting out more of it lately? Tell the provider, though symptoms alone never decide whether TRT fits.
Can your TRT visits happen without leaving Weirsdale?
Yes, for the visits themselves. Visits with Sarah Weir, APRN, can happen by telehealth anywhere in the state as long as you are physically in Florida at the time, handy when work keeps you away all day; see telehealth at Padgett. To begin, fill in the online TRT request, and the team calls you back to book the visit, or phone (352) 369-0104 yourself. Rather start with questions? Ask for a free 15-minute phone call with the medical staff; it is not a visit with the provider and nothing is prescribed on it.
Which neighboring towns make a similar trip to the clinic?
The Villages, in Sumter County, comes closest: about 22 miles and 34 minutes without traffic, a minute more than yours; see testosterone therapy in The Villages. Ocklawaha, on the north side of Lake Weir, is shorter, at about 17 miles and roughly 29 minutes: TRT in Ocklawaha. Weight loss is a separate Padgett program: see personalized compounded semaglutide in Weirsdale.

TRT questions from Weirsdale
Should I bring results from my last physical?
Yes, bring them, plus a list of every prescription and nonprescription medicine, vitamin and supplement you take, which MedlinePlus says to share before testosterone injection. Earlier results add context, but the Endocrine Society's guideline relies on a fasting morning total testosterone test, repeated to confirm a low result, so your provider decides what still needs drawing.
I have type 2 diabetes. Could testosterone help my blood sugar?
Don't start it for that reason. In men with type 2 diabetes and low testosterone, the Endocrine Society recommends against testosterone therapy as a way to improve blood sugar control. Keep that care with the clinician who manages your diabetes, and bring a list of your diabetes medicines to the first TRT visit.
Could testosterone give me more energy for construction work?
That isn't something anyone can promise. Testosterone products are FDA-approved only for men who lack testosterone or have low levels along with an associated medical condition, not as a way to work harder or longer. If your labs confirm low testosterone and treatment fits, your provider tracks how you respond with follow-up labs and blood pressure checks.
