For The Villages patients

From $199/month

  • Lab testing comes first.
  • Your plan, and its cost, follow your labs.
  • In person in Ocala or by telehealth.

Your provider: Sarah Weir, APRN.

The TRT plan starts at $199 a month, but your labs come first, and the actual cost depends on the plan they point to. At Padgett, testosterone is given by injection, and Sarah Weir, APRN, sets the plan and dose from your results, then adjusts both with follow-up labs. Testosterone replacement therapy in Ocala explains the full program.

How does TRT start for a man in The Villages?

Step by step, with labs before any treatment. You request a TRT visit online and the team follows up. Sarah Weir, APRN, reviews your symptoms, health history and medicines, and nothing begins until early-morning blood tests are back and reviewed. If testosterone therapy fits, she sets the plan from those results; if not, she explains why. Once treatment starts, follow-up labs and blood pressure checks are part of the routine.

Why are the blood tests done early in the morning?

Testosterone runs highest in the morning. The Endocrine Society's 2018 guideline calls for a fasting morning total testosterone test, repeated to confirm a low result, and its patient guide sets the window at 7 to 10 a.m. The American Urological Association's 2018 guideline also reads the level alongside symptoms and signs. Too much exercise, a severe illness or certain medicines can lower levels for a while, the patient guide adds, so mention them before your results are read.

Is TRT meant for men in their 70s and 80s?

Case by case, and age alone is not a reason to start. Census estimates put about 33,000 of the roughly 38,600 men in The Villages at 65 or older. For them, the Endocrine Society suggests against routinely treating every man with a low level, and supports an individual decision, after a frank talk about risks and benefits, when symptoms or conditions such as low sex drive or unexplained anemia come with consistently low morning levels. The FDA says FDA-approved testosterone products are approved only for men whose low testosterone comes with an associated medical condition.

Who should not start testosterone?

Men who want to father a child soon, first of all. The Endocrine Society recommends against testosterone for men planning fertility in the near term, and its patient guide lists decreased sperm production as a risk. The guideline also advises against it with breast or prostate cancer, a prostate lump or hardening that can be felt on exam, a PSA above 4 ng/mL (or above 3 in men at increased risk of prostate cancer) without further evaluation by a urologist, an elevated hematocrit, untreated severe sleep apnea, severe urinary symptoms, uncontrolled heart failure, a heart attack or stroke in the past six months, or thrombophilia, a tendency to form blood clots.

What does the CDC's depression estimate for The Villages have to do with TRT?

It is a reminder that low mood alone doesn't point to testosterone. CDC PLACES estimates that in 2023, 12.9% of adults in The Villages had ever been told by a doctor, nurse or other health professional that they had a depressive disorder. That counts women and men and is not a testosterone number. The Endocrine Society's patient guide lists depressed mood among possible symptoms, but low testosterone means low levels plus symptoms. Mention any depression treatment, and bring every prescription: the guide says opiate painkillers and corticosteroids can lower testosterone.

Why do follow-up labs and blood pressure checks matter on TRT?

Because testosterone can push both numbers up. In 2025, the FDA said monitoring studies confirmed a rise in blood pressure with all testosterone products. The Endocrine Society's monitoring plan checks testosterone and hematocrit, the share of your blood made up of red blood cells, which can climb too high. TRAVERSE, a trial in 5,246 men aged 45 to 80 with low testosterone and heart disease or high heart risk, found testosterone no worse than placebo for major heart events, with more atrial fibrillation, pulmonary embolism and acute kidney injury.

What if I already get care at the VA?

Then every clinician should know the whole story. The Census Bureau estimates about 13,900 civilian veterans in The Villages, 16.7% of civilian adults, above Sumter County's 13.7%, and the VA runs The Villages VA Clinic at 8900 SE 165th Mulberry Lane. If you are seen there, tell your VA team about testosterone, and tell your Padgett provider what the VA prescribes. At Veterans Memorial Park on Paige Place, commemorative bricks honor those who have served, and a ceremony is held there every Veterans Day.

What should I tell the provider about my days in The Villages?

Everything, including what has changed. Maybe you play Senior Division softball, open to players who turn at least 50 that calendar year, on the District's 19 fields, after a Tuesday 8 a.m. evaluation at Buffalo Glen Softball Complex. Maybe you shoot at the Paradise Archery Range, which shares 1403 Paradise Drive with Knudson Softball Field, or launch at the boat ramp in Lake Okahumpka Park, a 130-acre county park in Wildwood. Describe any change in energy, sex drive, focus or mood; your provider considers those changes alongside your labs.

Can my TRT visits happen from home?

Yes, by telehealth anywhere in Florida, as long as you are physically in Florida for each visit, so plan around months spent out of state. Testosterone is a prescription medicine and a Schedule III controlled substance. Prefer to sit across from Sarah Weir, APRN? The clinic at 200 SW 8th St., Suite A, is open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. See telehealth anywhere in Florida for how statewide visits work.

What if my weight is part of the picture?

Then it may come first. The Endocrine Society's patient guide says some causes of low testosterone, obesity among them, can improve without testosterone therapy and should be addressed before it is considered. If that is your provider's advice, Padgett also offers personalized compounded semaglutide for The Villages.

Do Wildwood and Lady Lake have their own TRT pages?

Yes. Both sit roughly 38 minutes from the clinic without traffic, about 4 minutes more than the middle of The Villages: see testosterone therapy in Wildwood or testosterone therapy in Lady Lake. When you are ready, start your TRT request online.

TRT questions from The Villages

I'm 74 and slower than I used to be. Is that low testosterone?

Not necessarily, and you can't tell without labs. The Endocrine Society's guideline calls for a diagnosis only when symptoms come with consistently low morning levels, confirmed by a repeat test. Your provider weighs your history, your medicines and your results before deciding anything.

I take blood pressure pills. Can I still be considered for TRT?

Possibly; your provider decides. The FDA says blood pressure can rise with every testosterone product, so bring recent readings and your medication list. If you do start, expect blood pressure checks alongside your follow-up labs, and report any home readings that climb.

Will testosterone help my softball or pickleball game?

No one should promise that, and Padgett doesn't. The Endocrine Society's patient guide notes that boosting testosterone is not FDA-approved to improve strength, athletic performance or appearance. TRT is considered for men whose symptoms come with consistently low morning testosterone, and only after your provider has reviewed the labs.

Can TRT fix erectile dysfunction?

Don't count on it. Padgett doesn't present TRT as a treatment for erectile dysfunction. The Endocrine Society lists erection problems among possible symptoms of low testosterone, one more reason the labs come first, but erections deserve their own evaluation. Your provider can look at that separately; see erectile dysfunction treatment.
